Parenting by Heart
Unlock your intuition and nurture with
confidence
Pinky McKay
The title of this book says it
all: take your courage in your hands and care for your baby in the way
which feels right for you. Whether you are pregnant or already a new
parent you will enjoy this book; it is full of information, and reading it
will give you choices about which way to go.
You will probably already have
found that ‘everybody’ is an expert on your baby. Wrong! You
are. How I wish I had had this book to read when I was a new mother. I was
so worried all the time about whether I was doing the right thing, and
convinced that all the other mothers knew what they were doing and were
doing it well. It was only when I learnt to lighten up and enjoy my baby
that I really began to bask in the delight of being a parent. I had to
find that out for myself, whereas if you read Parenting by Heart
you will know it from day one.
I laughed out aloud a lot when
reading this book. Only a mother could write, ‘People who sleep like a
baby probably don’t have one’ and for me the book brought back
memories of that exhaustion only a new mother can feel. McKay proposes
some excellent one-liners to fend off inquisitive or intrusive family or
friends, and I like her suggestion to put a ‘Mother and Baby Resting’
sign on the door with a notepad so that visitors can leave a message.
It is full of detail about
dealing with healthcare professionals, postnatal depression,
breast-feeding and what to do with a crying baby as well as ways to care
for yourself.
If you buy just one book about
parenting - buy Parenting by Heart. You wont regret it.
