The ParentTalk Guide to Sleep
Solving sleep problems from birth to
school
Kate Daymond
There comes a time in most
parents’ lives when they will need to read this book. Sleep deprivation
is the oldest form of torture, and no one can really prepare a
parent-to-be for the broken nights ahead. So, parents who have paced the
floor, rocked their baby, and tried everything they know to make their
baby sleep, will welcome this new book.
It is divided into sections -
Birth to Three Months, Three to Six Months, Six to Twelve Months, One to
Two Years and Three to Five Years, with plenty of tips to help you through
these years and beyond.
There is a section covering
‘special situations’ so if you have a child who has Down’s Syndrome,
ADD or ADHD there are specific pointers.
If you want to know the pros
and cons of letting baby sleep in your bed, or want to know more about
SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) or how to get into a bedtime routine
which suits you and your baby then get this book.
I laughed out loud at the
comments about ‘sleepovers’ for older children. ‘Whoever coined the
word "sleepover" was clearly deranged! Sleepovers have very
little to do with sleep.’ But even on this topic, there are tips on how
to handle a sleepover at your home, or when your child (at last) wants to
stay at a friends home overnight. At least that is one night you can be
sure you will sleep right through.
Kate Daymond is a health
visitor.
