Your Child's Divorce - What to expect - What you can do

'Mom, Dad ....I'm getting divorced' begins the introduction to this book.  Any parent hearing these words, as I have, will know that time freezes before the pain hits.  Your Child's Divorce turns the spotlight on the very core of the impact of a divorce on the whole family.  Today it is being recognized that children are always affected by their parents divorce - now we can turn our attention wider to the extended family. Something which at first seems a private matter between the couple soon spreads to affect parents, grandparents and siblings.

First of all I congratulate Marsh Temlock for highlighting a largely ignored side-effect of divorce.  This book will also give countless parents the support they need when going through a bereavement themselves.  Because divorce is a bereavement  - loss of dreams, feelings of helplessness, anger, and concern about any children from the relationship.

So Your Child's Divorce - What to Expect - What to do is an excellent guide which many men and women will find enormously helpful.  I only wish that there were fewer people who need this book!  There are plenty of pointers listed and the 'Guideposts' at the end of each chapter and clearly laid out.  You may not want to do the workbook exercises - they are not everyone's cup of tea - but read through the list - the more you are aware of the issues around, the more prepared you will be to support your child.

If you have ever felt dreadful when your child was having problems in the playground - this is nothing to compare to the agony of seeing a child through a divorce and its aftermath.   Read this book.
